About the position

The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting activities within the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial operations. This role is critical in supporting the CFO and the Agency's Leadership by providing accurate financial data, analysis, and strategic insights. The Controller will manage the accounting team, ensuring compliance with all financial policies and procedures, and will be responsible for the preparation of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all financial and accounting activities to ensure integrity and accuracy.
  • Support the CFO and Agency Leadership with financial data and strategic insights.
  • Manage the accounting team and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Supervise accounting staff and ensure adequacy of internal controls related to grant activity.
  • Organize and oversee month and year-end accounting and reporting tasks.
  • Develop and implement agency accounting policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Program Directors to prepare grant budgets and monitor performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Prior experience with nonprofit accounting, grant management, and Federal grant requirements.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting standards.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Public accounting experience is desired.
  • Demonstrated skills working with personal computers, databases, accounting software, and financial management systems.
