About the position

The Controller position is a critical role within a well-established company located in Sioux Falls, SD. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a finance professional to make a significant impact in a dynamic and rewarding environment. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance to the executive team. This role requires a strong leader who can manage multiple facilities and budgets while developing a team of finance professionals. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and empathy in all interactions, leading by example and fostering a collaborative work environment. In this role, the Controller will perform and monitor all expenditures, journal and ledger entries, bank statements, account activity, and other accounting and financial records. They will ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company standards. The Controller will compile, prepare, and maintain records, evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures, and investment activities, and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions to executives. Additionally, the Controller will analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret the current and projected financial position of the company. They will review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports, and prepare financial statements, estimates, summaries, financial analyses, management reports, and cost control reports. The position also involves overseeing the activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets. The Controller will develop credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist senior executives in their responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor all expenditures, journal and ledger entries, bank statements, account activity and other accounting and financial records.
  • Ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company standards.
  • Compile, prepare and maintain records.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities.
  • Make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions to executives.
  • Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
  • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Prepare financial statements, estimates, summaries, financial analyses, management reports and cost control reports.
  • Oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.
  • Develop credibility by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist senior executives in performing their responsibilities.
  • Create a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision making issues affecting the organization.

Requirements
