About the position

The Controller is responsible for guiding financial decisions and protecting assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures, as well as internal controls. This role involves overseeing accounting duties for a portfolio of businesses, managing engagement teams, and ensuring accurate financial reporting under deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting duties for a portfolio of businesses with accuracy under deadlines (A/P, A/R, bank transactions, payroll entries, month end close, financial statement preparation)
  • Manage the engagement teams (including offshore resources) and the overall engagement for each assigned client.
  • Plan and oversee month-end close for all assigned clients. Review and approve work of team.
  • Produce all relevant financial statement reports on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining standardized accounting procedures and processes.
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of each assigned client's industry, business model, accounting operations and financial management needs.
  • Identify technology or process improvements to further streamline and automate client engagement workflow.
  • Develop engagement budgets; use technology and staffing leverage to achieve stated economic objectives.
  • Follow and maintain work progress in relation to budgeted time and scheduled dates of completion; proactively identify out of scope activities and billing overages.
  • Train and supervise Accountants, Senior Accountants, Analysts and Interns to ensure that objectives are accomplished effectively and efficiently; assist in completing these objectives when necessary.
  • Research and identify potential resolutions to client issues; work with Team Lead to address issues with clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field strongly preferred
  • CPA certification or other relevant certification a plus
  • 5+ years' general accounting in a corporate setting required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, to effectively interface with all levels of firm management and staff; ability to communicate issues and conclusions
  • Problem-solving skills; ability to shift focus and adapt to changes
