About the position

The Corporate Controller for Restaurant Hospitality will oversee the accounting department's activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for a multi-state and multi-unit restaurant operation. This role requires strong leadership and accounting skills, with a focus on compliance, financial analysis, and collaboration with various departments and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Accounting Department's activities to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including internal and external monthly financial statements.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, including journal entry preparation and review, financial analysis, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of balance sheets.
  • Manage fixed asset schedules and capitalization tables, including accurate calculations of annual depreciation schedules and capital expenditures.
  • Oversee and direct the timely completion of the annual budget, ensuring reasonable assumptions.
  • Collaborate with external accounting firms to provide year-end financial information, ensuring corporate income tax compliance and timely filing of all corporate income tax returns while maximizing favorable tax codes.
  • Ensure timely filing of 5500s for 401(k) and employee benefit plans.
  • Work with external auditors to ensure the timely completion of financial and 401(k) annual audits, verifying annual audits related to insurance, workers' compensation, and 401(k).
  • Oversee the accounts payable function to ensure timely invoice payments and capture reasonable discounts.
  • Manage the company expense platform.
  • Participate periodically in the payroll process, ensuring accurate payroll tax reporting by the payroll provider.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including sales tax, personal property tax, unclaimed property, and 1099s.
  • Respond promptly to the CFO with accurate and timely information to meet financial needs.
  • Engage in various special projects and compile special reports as required.
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls to verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, enhancing the Company's value.
  • Communicate in a timely, courteous, and professional manner with co-workers, management, clients, and others.
  • Adhere to all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Over 10 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years focused on multi-state and multi-unit restaurant and hospitality accounting.
  • Experience with Restaurant 365 is highly preferred.
  • A background as a Controller or Senior Staff Accountant is essential.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • Strong time management skills to meet deadlines while handling multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities are critical.
  • Capable of working independently, managing various tasks, and providing precise data.
  • Integrity, strong accounting skills, leadership abilities, and a collaborative approach with other department heads are essential.
