About the position

This position is incentive eligible. The Controller at Alaska Regional Hospital is a pivotal role that provides essential support to the administrative team and directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Controller is responsible for delivering financial, statistical, and productivity support to the facility leadership team, ensuring that all financial activities are managed within the confines of company policy, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and federal regulations. This role involves overseeing the daily finance activities, which includes supervising and reviewing the performance of accounting staff and Decision Support service staff. The Controller will also be responsible for processing and preparing journal entries, conducting balance sheet reconciliations, and performing basic office duties. The position is located in Salt Lake City, UT, but it requires one week of travel every month to Anchorage, Alaska for month-end activities. The Controller will play a crucial role in managing the finance department, ensuring that all financial operations are executed efficiently and effectively. This includes a focus on net revenue entry preparation, posting, and analysis, as well as the review and analysis of capital equipment processes, recording, and depreciation. The Controller will also need to have a strong understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Medicare/Medicaid accounting requirements, and Joint Commission standards. Responsibilities

  • Provide financial, statistical, and productivity support to the facility leadership team.
  • Manage the daily finance activities, including supervising and reviewing the performance of accounting staff and Decision Support service staff.
  • Process and prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Conduct review and analysis of capital equipment processes, recording, and depreciation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policy, GAAP, and federal regulations.
  • Support the CFO with financial reporting and analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Four years' experience in Finance or Accounting required.
  • Three years progressive experience in supervision in Finance or Accounting required.
  • Three years progressive experience in net revenue entry preparation, posting, and analysis/review required.
  • Three years progressive experience in review and analysis of capital equipment process, recording, and depreciation required.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley Act and Medicare/Medicaid Accounting requirements.
  • Knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
