About the position

The financial controller oversees the company's overall financial health. This position maintains, manages, and analyzes financial statements, payroll, budgets, tax compliance issues, and the accounts payable, accounts receivable, and staff accountants to ensure quality input and analysis is performed at all levels of the accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions, including tax planning and compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and company standards for all employees.
  • Implement accounting and financial policies, procedures, and processes to ensure the company's financial health is preserved.
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implement a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Coordinate accounting staff for monthly closing procedures and ensure these are done in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the production of periodic financial reports; ensure that the reported results comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Financial Accounting Standards Board, or International Accounting Standards Board.
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures comply with all applicable loan covenants.
  • Create/implement/maintain systems of internal controls.
  • Coordinate with CFO the creation of the annual budget; report monthly variances to CFO.
  • Communicate with external auditors and provide needed information for annual audit.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Ensure sales tax payable is computed, paid, and posted accurately.
  • Evaluate accounting schedules and accruals to be accurate and provide recommendations for adjustments annually.
  • Provide input and milestones for quarterly and annual accounting goals.
  • Lead monthly financial preparation for CFO.
  • Ensure balance sheet schedules are created and maintained, month to month.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Ten years or more of related experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
