About the position

The Controller position is a critical role within the accounting department, responsible for developing and implementing financial systems, processes, controls, and procedures that ensure the integrity of financial reporting and compliance with regulations. This position requires a proactive approach to coordinating and supervising the activities of the accounting department, ensuring that all financial operations are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Controller will play a key role in preparing employees for greater responsibilities by involving them in various areas of the department, fostering a culture of growth and development within the team. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the Controller will provide timely financial information to operating management, enabling informed decision-making. This includes the preparation and distribution of daily revenue, cash, and census reports, as well as developing and submitting requested reports that assist in the analysis of the business. The Controller will also be responsible for developing and achieving budget targets for the department and the facility, monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance with the budget, and operating within the confines of the annual budget as adjusted for volume. The role involves organizing and coordinating the activities of the accounting department as they pertain to the preparation of monthly financial statements and the month-end close process. The Controller will also be expected to perform other functions and tasks as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement financial systems, processes, controls, and procedures for accounting functions.
  • Coordinate and supervise activities of the accounting department.
  • Prepare employees for greater responsibility by involving them in different areas of the department.
  • Provide financial information to operating management in a routine and timely manner.
  • Develop and submit requested reports in a timely fashion that assists in the analysis of the business.

  • Assume responsibility for developing and achieving budget targets for the department and the facility.
  • Monitor the expenditures of the facility to maintain compliance with the budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Five years of job-related experience preferably in a health care setting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
