About the position

The Controller will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of a nonprofit organization in Pembroke Park, FL. This role involves developing policies, procedures, and controls while providing strategic financial support to leadership for decision-making, budgeting, and financial planning. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with nonprofit regulatory requirements and maintain accurate financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Manage all accounting functions including financial statements and reports (monthly, quarterly, annually) and month and year-end closings.
• Assist with preparing and managing forecasts and company/department budgets.
• Oversee day-to-day operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliation, grants accounting/reporting, and adherence to GAAP.
• Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls for accurate, secure, and compliant financial reports.
• Develop, implement, and enhance accounting and finance policies; identify and implement new procedures for efficiency and accuracy of financial operations and reporting.
• Ensure organization is prepared for audits with documentation, procedure, and policy; work with external auditors on internal/external audits.

Requirements

• 7-10 years of senior-level accounting experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Current CPA certification is a plus.
• Experience in a nonprofit environment with a high level of experience in grants accounting and documentation.
• Expertise in GAAP, reporting, internal controls, and accounting principles.
• Knowledge of risk management and insurance.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.
