About the position

Champion Home Builders, Inc. is seeking a Controller to join our team in Lindsay, CA. This position is crucial for maintaining the financial integrity of our operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. The Controller will be responsible for preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the company's accounting policies. This role involves providing meaningful financial information and analyses to plant, regional, and corporate management to support decision-making processes, including product pricing and profit improvement initiatives. The Controller will also be tasked with maintaining an effective internal control environment to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, safeguarding the company's assets, and identifying opportunities, risks, or liabilities that may arise from ongoing business operations. In addition to general accounting responsibilities, the Controller will oversee budgeting, planning, and forecasting processes, developing the plant budget and forecasts using input from the management team. This includes analyzing variations from historical performance and preparing necessary templates for planning and forecasting. The role also encompasses payroll responsibilities, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, and managing the cost accounting function, including margin analysis and inventory reconciliation. The Controller will perform periodic reviews of local processes to ensure compliance with company policy and support internal and external audit requirements. A strong partnership with the General Manager is essential, as the Controller will prepare or review capital expenditure requests and provide feedback on operational observations. This position also involves managing employees performing accounting functions at the plant and collaborating with HR on employment and benefit issues. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a motivated work ethic, embodying the company's operating principles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
• Provide financial information and analyses to support decision-making processes.
• Maintain an effective internal control environment to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations.
• Safeguard the company's assets and identify potential risks or liabilities.
• Oversee all plant accounting operations and ensure accuracy in the general ledger.
• Perform month-end close processes and reconcile significant balance sheet accounts.
• Develop plant budgets and forecasts using input from management.
• Analyze variations from historical performance and provide feedback.
• Prepare and review payroll reports and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Manage the cost accounting function and reconcile physical inventories.
• Support internal and external audit requirements and address any identified issues.
• Prepare or review capital expenditure requests and obtain approvals.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and provide feedback to management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 5 to 7 years of manufacturing accounting leadership experience.
• Prior Controller or equivalent experience is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with NAV (ERP system) is beneficial.
• Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is a plus.
