About the position

The Homestead collection of companies is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our accounting and finance team. This role is crucial as it involves providing personal and experienced support for individuals considering senior living plans for themselves and their loved ones. Our services include coordinated solutions with private duty home-care and residential options, as well as counseling and management of assisted living and memory care communities. As a local leader in a growing industry, Homestead is committed to delivering high-quality services to our clients. In this position, the Accountant will be responsible for completing the monthly and year-end close processes, preparing monthly financial statements, and reconciling general ledger accounts. The role also includes contributing to process improvements and system enhancements, particularly in the context of property management accounting. The Accountant will work closely with the CFO and Corporate Controller to perform financial analyses and create reports for senior management, including expense variance analysis and budget preparation. This position requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to drive results in a timeline-sensitive environment. It is important to note that this position is 100% in the office, emphasizing the need for collaboration and communication within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheet, P&L, and statement of cash flows for multiple properties and business units.
  • Perform the financial closing process with responsibility for multiple companies and the respective G/L accounts, including monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts in a multi-company environment.
  • Complete conversion of accounting system to Yardi.
  • Contribute to process improvements, systems enhancements, and the setup of improved policies and procedures in respective areas of responsibility.
  • Assist the CFO and Corporate Controller in performing analysis and creating reports for senior management, including expense variance analysis, financial review, and budget preparation.
  • Exercise critical thinking in operational, financial, and transactional analyses to identify and help resolve any issues that may arise during daily operations and the month-end close process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited college is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience preparing, analyzing, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with Yardi highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting and general ledger entry and reconciliations skills.
  • High degree of diplomacy in handling sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • The ability to drive results to completion in timeline-sensitive environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Property management accounting experience is a plus.
