About the position

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to join our team at Conveyability, Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI. The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, including the management of financial statements, budget preparation, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and have a thorough understanding of financial operations. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reports and compliance with all relevant regulations. The Controller will be responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, conducting year-end financial analysis and audits, and providing insights and recommendations for financial improvements. Additionally, the Controller will collaborate with department heads to develop and manage annual budgets, ensuring optimal budgetary performance. The position requires a proactive approach to financial management, including the oversight of bank statement reconciliations, petty cash management, and compliance with borrowing agreements. The Controller will also lead and mentor an accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the reconciliation of all bank statements on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure accuracy and timely reporting of bank transactions.
  • Supervise the handling and documentation of petty cash transactions.
  • Maintain petty cash records and perform periodic audits.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all borrowing agreements, providing substantiation of inventory, receivables and payables to bank upon request.
  • Manage debt levels, loan documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain costing models to support pricing strategies and financial planning.
  • Analyze and report on cost variances and trends.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reports.
  • Conduct year-end financial analysis and audits.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for financial improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll tax requirements including (940, 943, 943A, 165).
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to the board of directors.
  • Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage annual budgets.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to optimize budgetary performance.
  • Prepare and file quarterly tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Oversee Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting requirements form 720.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of ACA documentation in coordination with HR department.
  • Lead and mentor an accounting team of one direct report.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Provide oversight support to AR and AP as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Quickbooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
