About the position

The Controller will lead the accounting department's daily operations, ensuring accuracy in financial processes and records. This role requires strong leadership and a hands-on approach, ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring a team while also engaging in detailed financial tasks. The position is with a well-established professional services firm that values collaboration, integrity, and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering an environment of collaboration, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Manage the treasury function and banking relationships.
  • Revenue recognition, calculate partner compensation.
  • Work closely with other departments to provide financial support and insights, assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and assist in preparing financial reports for senior leadership.
  • Coordinate and lead audits, as well as tax preparation and compliance efforts with external auditors and consultants.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes and systems, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, changes in accounting regulations, and best practices to ensure the company remains compliant and competitive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA designation is a plus.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in managing accounting operations within a professional services firm or similar environment.
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to engage in detail-oriented tasks alongside the team.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
