About the position

Link-Belt Mid Atlantic is firmly committed to maintaining and protecting our customers' equipment investments. We specialize in crane and excavator sales, service, rentals, and parts. Currently, we have a Controller role open with our Mid-Atlantic location in Ashland, VA. This position is responsible for the maintenance of fiscal records, policies, and procedures that provide internal control over financial reporting, preparation of the operating budget, and tax compliance. The Controller will develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures that provide internal controls over financial reporting and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and JSOX. The Controller will be responsible for all credit-related functions from approvals to collections. This role requires active involvement with the Branch Managers in assisting them in business activities to better understand and assist in their absence. The Controller will be an integral part of the management team by providing financial leadership, accounting, and business support to all dealership locations and the dealership management team. The position involves closely monitoring and reporting monthly financial performance, analyzing, and commenting on variances to budget or forecasts. As the lead person for interaction with external auditors, the Controller will be responsible for the preparation of materials and answering related questions arising from the audit concerning dealership operations and accounting. This role includes the preparation of all budgets, forecasts, and other short/long-term financial planning strategies. The Controller will identify areas of opportunities and improvements within the dealership and work with the appropriate departments to implement the necessary processes and procedures. Additionally, the Controller will interact closely with corporate accounting to ensure appropriate accounting of intercompany transactions and to resolve related issues as they arise. The position also requires providing all required tax information to the parent company for the preparation of Federal and state income tax returns. The Controller will work with local, state, and federal governing bodies and tax authorities to ensure proper recognition of adherence to applicable laws and regulations, as well as to resolve any tax or legislative issues related to distributor operations. Furthermore, the Controller will ensure appropriate inventory controls at all branch locations are in place and being complied with, directing the annual or semiannual physical inventory counts at each location. The role involves working with all departments to ensure the most efficient use of dealership operating systems and IT resources, performing periodic assessments of dealership IT resources and equipment to determine compatibility with needs, and collaborating with the corporate IT department to replace that which no longer meets those needs. Finally, the Controller will be responsible for the initial review and final development of all contracts and agreements related to dealership operations.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • At least 3-5 years of related experience with increasing responsibility in a manufacturing or retail environment.
  • Prior management or supervision experience preferred.
