The Controller position at Grassi is a pivotal role within a full-service company that specializes in providing commercial and residential title insurance across the United States. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting team, managing financial reporting, and coordinating with external CPA firms and underwriters. In this role, the Controller will coordinate with an external CPA firm to prepare and provide necessary financial data. They will oversee and manage an accounting team of five, ensuring that all accounting functions are performed accurately and timely. The Controller will review various tax forms, including 1065 and K-1s, and will be responsible for processing and calculating monthly New York State sales tax, as well as preparing year-end non-employee compensation forms (10-99s). Additionally, the Controller will manage business insurance renewals and coordinate with external banking teams to handle various financial transactions. The position also involves preparing financial reports, including income statements and balance sheets, and managing accounts payable and receivable processes. The Controller will be expected to host monthly management department calls, identify areas for process improvement, and prepare annual budgets and ad-hoc reports. This role requires a strong understanding of the real estate industry, particularly in title insurance, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments, including HR, to manage payroll and employee benefits.
