About the position

The Controller at Piston Automotive is responsible for directing the financial activities of the organization, ensuring accurate accounting of business results, and preparing vital internal financial statements for management. This role involves managing accounting operations, consolidating financial data, and providing insights for decision-making, all while fostering a culture of excellence within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of quarterly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions.
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes.
  • Preparation of work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances.
  • Review and post receipts and payments to appropriate ledgers, spreadsheets, records, and databases.
  • Audit invoices against purchase orders, research discrepancies, and approve for payment.
  • Provide advance warning of variances to most recent budget/forecast in a no surprises manner.
  • Evaluate accounting and internal control systems.
  • Direct preparation of budgets, review budget proposals, and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification.
  • Provide counsel and advice to peer management in an effort to optimize operational results.
  • Coordinate activities of external auditors.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Act as close confidant to Plant Manager of operation.
  • Hire, train, and retain competent accounting staff.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience as a Controller
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Account, Finance or a related field
  • Eight (8) years of experience interpreting financial reports and legal documents
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience presenting information to various levels of management
  • Eight years of experience working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Eight years of experience applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA, CMA preferred
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
