About the position

The Controller at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hospital, ensuring accurate preparation of financial statements, audits, and departmental reports. This role involves collaboration with the CFO to negotiate vendor payment terms and manage accounting functions, including payroll and accounts payable. The Controller plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity and compliance within the hospital's operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly detailed financial statements and annual audit schedules.
• Review and maintain departmental operating reports and general ledger.
• Supervise payroll, accounts payable, and accounting functions.
• Negotiate payment terms with vendors in collaboration with the CFO.
• Ensure accurate charging of supplies to patients and proper account coding.
• Implement month-end closing procedures and prepare monthly financial statements.
• Oversee the collection of district property taxes and CAM fees.
• Supervise and perform duties related to accruals and journal entries.
• Act as the point person for all audits and compliance matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Finance or Accounting.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller in an Acute Care Hospital in California.
• Experience in district hospital or CAH preferred.
• Strong leadership and staff management skills.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Proficient in medical office software, including EMR/EHR systems.
• Knowledge of medical billing and coding practices.
• Excellent communication and people skills.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with AllScripts preferred.
• Ability to learn new computer-based systems such as AllScripts, Premier, and UKG.
