About the position

Robert Half is seeking an ambitious Controller to join a well-respected company in the Greater Philadelphia region. The Controller will be responsible for planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for both internal and external financial statements, and analyzing accounting and internal control systems. This role requires guiding departmental staff and ensuring that the company adheres to a documented set of accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will be able to motivate others by maintaining a positive professional attitude, exhibiting integrity, reliability, and leadership, and providing exceptional client services by managing self and others with a sense of urgency, practicality, and accountability. In this permanent position, the Controller will supervise the generation of regular financial reports and guarantee that reported results adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or international financial reporting standards (IFRS). The role involves proposing benchmarks for measuring the company's performance, generating the annual budget and forecasts, and reporting significant variances to management. The Controller will also perform financial analysis, particularly for capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations. Collaboration with external auditors is essential, as the Controller will provide necessary information for the annual audit and submit quarterly and annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Additionally, the Controller will ensure adherence to local, state, and federal government regulations, oversee a timely month-end close, and compile various management reports to display profit and loss by line of business, office locations, and other criteria as required by management.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and uphold a documented set of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Supervise the generation of regular financial reports.
  • Guarantee that reported results adhere to generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
  • Propose benchmarks for measuring the company's performance.
  • Generate the annual budget and forecasts, reporting significant variances to management.
  • Perform financial analysis, especially for capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, providing necessary information for the annual audit.
  • Submit quarterly and annual reports to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal government regulations.
  • Oversee a timely month-end close, summarizing variances in the profit and loss and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Compile various management reports to display profit and loss by Line of Business, office locations, and other criteria as required by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial management required.
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP with the ability to apply principles effectively.
  • Detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel including Vlook-ups and pivot tables.
  • Thorough experience with ERP systems, SAP is preferred.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
