About the position

The Controller at Coreslab Structures (Indianapolis) Inc. is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring the integrity of financial data, and preparing accurate financial reports. This role involves managing cash accounts, reconciling bank statements, monitoring revenue recognition, and ensuring compliance with local tax laws. The Controller will also lead the accounting team, provide training, and address any accounting-related issues that arise.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all cash accounts and monitor balances for weekly cash position report.
  • Monthly reconciliation of bank account.
  • Maintain and reconcile Petty Cash account.
  • Ensure integrity in data collection for input into the accounting system.
  • Audit data collection activities for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Monitor revenue recognition relative to contracts to ensure accuracy.
  • Reconcile Over/Under account to Revenue and Sales monthly.
  • Plan and participate in inventory counts for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Communicate significant variances in raw material pricing to management.
  • Calculate fully burdened wage rates for job estimation and bidding.
  • Timely submission of backcharges.
  • Monitor and respond to A/R collection issues.
  • Understand local lien laws to minimize financial exposure.
  • Monitor weekly plant activity for accruals at month end.
  • Understand state and local sales and use tax for materials and products.
  • Collect sales and use tax exemption certificates for exempt sales.
  • Timely filing of Sales/Use tax returns.
  • Maintain copies of Workers Comp and General Liability Insurance certificates for subcontractors.
  • Weekly monitoring of transactions against P&L and balance sheet for accuracy.
  • Submit fixed asset retirements and transfers as required.
  • Prepare information for monthly Financial Statements.
  • Review A/R invoices for accuracy and tie to Accounting Software.
  • Balance A/R to General Ledger.
  • Review A/P invoices and outstanding issues for unpaid vendors.
  • Balance A/P to General Ledger.
  • Review monthly payroll and payroll tax amounts for accuracy.
  • Reconcile payroll liability accounts and balance Payroll to General Ledger.
  • Responsible for union remittances and review of Financial Statements for accuracy.
  • Daily review of costs for monthly statements and analysis of unusual items.
  • Assess needs of the accounting department and ensure personnel meet required skills.
  • Responsible for training of accounting department and recommendations for personnel changes.
  • Prepare schedules for annual financial statement audit.
  • Handle various Federal and State reporting requirements for IFTA taxes and licenses.

Requirements

  • Senior level accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software.
  • Strong understanding of cash management and reconciliation processes.
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition principles and practices.
  • Experience with inventory management and cost accounting.
  • Familiarity with local lien laws and financial exposure mitigation.
  • Understanding of sales and use tax regulations.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
  • Experience in payroll processing and reconciliation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in construction accounting.
  • Knowledge of GEAC accounting software.
  • Familiarity with union payroll processes.
