About the position

We are seeking a skilled Controller to join our team. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, including financial planning, reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in accounting principles and financial management. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial health of the organization and will involve a variety of tasks that require a keen eye for detail and a strategic mindset. In this position, you will perform and monitor all expenditures, journal and ledger entries, bank statements, account activity, and other accounting and financial records. You will ensure financial recording accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company standards. Your responsibilities will include compiling, preparing, and maintaining records, as well as evaluating financial reporting systems, accounting procedures, and investment activities. You will be expected to make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions to executives. Analyzing financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital will be a key part of your role, as you prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret the current and projected company financial position. Additionally, you will review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports. Preparing financial statements, estimates, summaries, financial analyses, management reports, and cost control reports will also fall under your purview. You will oversee the activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets. Your role will also involve developing credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends to assist senior executives in performing their responsibilities. You will create a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting department budgets will be essential. As a strategic financial leader, you will provide input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization. Ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, expense reports, cash control, and payroll processing will be part of your daily tasks. You will also manage all accounts receivable aging components, including billings and cash receipts, and oversee quarter and year-end payroll closing, including federal and state reports. Establishing and maintaining systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data will be critical to enhancing the company's value. You will evaluate the finance division structure and team, planning for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group while providing individuals with professional and personal growth opportunities where possible.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (required).
  • Five or more years of related experience (required).
  • Strong background in general ledger accounting and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles and budgeting.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP standards.
  • Familiarity with financial concepts and technical accounting.
  • Proficient in MS Office with ability to learn new software.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to lead a team, self-starter.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiar with Quick Books and Oracle NetSuite (preferred).
