About the position

The Controller position at our maritime transportation company in Virginia Beach is a pivotal role that requires a seasoned professional to lead the finance department. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards. This hands-on role will also involve managing the Human Resources function as it pertains to payroll and benefits management, as well as overseeing IT-related financial operations. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in the transportation industry, with extensive experience in accounting, budgeting, management accounting, financial reporting, and financial modeling. In this role, the Controller will be tasked with managing fixed assets, general ledger management, and conducting financial cost accounting analysis across multiple entities. The position demands a strategic thinker who can provide insights and recommendations based on financial data to support the company's operational and strategic goals. The Controller will also play a key role in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a transportation-related company, with a strong preference for those holding a CPA designation. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Ability to conduct financial cost accounting analysis of multiple entities.
  • CPA designation is highly advantageous.
