About the position
The Controller position at a construction client in New Braunfels, TX, involves overseeing the accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and managing various financial processes. The role requires a strong background in accounting, particularly within the construction industry, and entails responsibilities such as managing bank transactions, accounts payable, job costing, and financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Post daily bank transactions.
- Route, scan, and post change orders for approval in the Contract module; request budget estimates and post approved change orders to the Job Cost module.
- Print and file all related documents.
- Deposit, scan, and post physical checks, and file them in contract folders and deposit binders.
- Make IRS payroll tax payments through the bank's CEO portal.
- Upload 401K contributions to the designated website.
- Review and select accounts payable (AP) payments for processing.
- Generate and distribute job cost, labor cost, and cost entry reports to project managers and management team members each Friday.
- Prepare manual job pay applications and post to accounting software, including: Stored material worksheet and invoice backup, Stored material Certificate of Insurance (COI), Notarization.
- Create monthly billing spreadsheet showing amounts billed for the owner.
- Issue monthly Lien Notices and sub-tier lien waivers as needed.
- Reconcile all bank statements.
- Record purchased or disposed assets and prepare depreciation journal entries.
- Allocate accrued insurance costs through journal entries.
- Update cost-to-complete for Work In Progress (WIP).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
- 5-12 years of experience in accounting in a construction industry related company.
- CPA or CMA certification a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel used consistently).
- Proficiency in Sage a plus.
