About the position

The Controller position at Crownstone Equipment is a critical role that reports directly to the CFO. This position is integral to the management and day-to-day accounting and reporting functions of the construction equipment dealership business unit. The Controller is responsible for overseeing cash management, depository, and treasury functions while actively engaging in the daily operations of the business. This includes being the primary contact for financial transactions across various departments, including equipment sales, parts, rentals, and service. In this role, the Controller ensures accurate data entry and reporting for all accounting functions within the company. This encompasses revenue and accounts receivable management, where the Controller collaborates with the accounts receivable staff to monitor the proper entry of departmental transactions, oversee payment applications, and manage customer communications regarding overdue payments. Additionally, the Controller is responsible for expenses and accounts payable, ensuring accurate data entry of incoming invoices and timely payments of outstanding amounts due. The Controller also plays a vital role in inventory management and floor plan debt tracking, working closely with the Asset Manager to monitor inventory movement and handle floor plan payments. Furthermore, the position involves maintaining accurate records of fixed assets and related indebtedness, as well as managing cash balances and intercompany balances. The Controller prepares and distributes GAAP-compliant financial statements in a timely manner and develops expertise in the company's Dealer Management System (DMS), CDK Global. The role requires establishing and enforcing transactional policies and procedures to maximize the accuracy of the company's financial records. The Controller is also responsible for monitoring compliance through audits and coordinating with leadership to achieve operational and financial goals. This position requires strong leadership skills, as the Controller will manage and develop the financial staff through coaching and performance appraisals.

Responsibilities

  • Manage cash, depository, and treasury functions for the dealership business unit.
  • Oversee revenue and accounts receivable, ensuring accurate data entry and payment applications.
  • Manage expenses and accounts payable, ensuring timely payment of outstanding invoices.
  • Track inventory movement and related floor plan debts in collaboration with the Asset Manager.
  • Maintain accurate records of fixed assets and related indebtedness.
  • Monitor cash balances, line of credit availabilities, and intercompany balances, reporting to the CFO daily.
  • Prepare and distribute GAAP-compliant financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Develop expertise in the company's Dealer Management System (DMS), CDK Global.
  • Establish and enforce transactional policies and procedures to maximize accuracy.
  • Monitor transactions for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  • Recruit, select, orient, train, and manage accounting employees.
  • Oversee audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Coordinate with leadership to assist in achieving operational and financial goals.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting/finance roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business administration, accounting, or finance preferred; 3+ years in managerial corporate accounting experience may suffice in lieu of degree.
  • Strong grasp of Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookups.
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting treatments is required.
  • Management experience is a plus, but not required.
  • CPA license is a plus, but not required; experience with CDK Global is also a plus.
