About the position

The Controller will oversee the company's accounting and financial operations, ensuring the integrity of financial information and compliance with regulatory standards. This role is crucial for financial reporting, budget management, and financial risk management, collaborating closely with the management team to support the organization's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, including variance analysis and financial performance reporting.
  • Manage the accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and tax compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and consulting with auditors.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions and strategic planning.
  • Oversee cash flow management, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations and investment activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the company's financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Mentor and develop the finance and accounting team, promoting a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment and support for financial initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with banks, auditors, and other financial institutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, including management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
  • Experience with financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficient in accounting software and financial management systems (e.g., ERP systems).
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with GAAP (1 year preferred).
  • Ability to commute to Minneapolis, MN 55404 (preferred).
  • Willingness to relocate before starting work (required).
