About the position

ReGeneration Schools is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the financial health and integrity of the organization, managing a $36M budget across five legal entities and two states. This role, reporting directly to the CFO, is critical for implementing strong financial controls, ensuring compliance, and supporting the mission of providing high-quality education to students. The Controller will lead a growing finance team, enhance financial infrastructure, and play a key role in the organization's expansion plans.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor strong internal controls across the organization.
  • Oversee a timely month-end closing process, managing general accounting, cash flow, accounts payable, payroll, grants, and accounts receivable.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ensuring smooth processes with auditors and stakeholders.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements for internal and external stakeholders, providing insightful updates for senior managers.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support treasury functions and maintain strategic relationships with treasury management services.
  • Spearhead the annual budget and forecast process, collaborating with departments to create accurate budgets.
  • Lead efforts to consolidate regional finance systems into a unified platform.
  • Drive payroll process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Oversee financial aspects of grant management, ensuring compliance and alignment with requirements.
  • Standardize and implement accounting policies and procedures across programs.
  • Establish and monitor financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing finance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA designation or advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in nonprofit accounting and finance, particularly in multi-entity or multi-state environments.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in developing and leading finance teams.
  • Expertise in internal controls, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills for managing complex financial systems.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with systems integration is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
