About the position

Evergen Equity is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead the Accounting Team within our real estate investment firm. This role is pivotal in managing financial operations and reporting for both the Operating Company and its real estate investments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting, finance, and commercial real estate, with a focus on leadership and collaboration across various teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage general ledger accounting and oversee the closing process on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Review, oversee the preparation, and analyze financial statements to ensure accurate and timely reporting to external partners and management team.
  • Manage cash requirements of multiple bank and investment accounts, including capital calls and distributions across multiple entities.
  • Oversee preparation and monitoring of budgets, financial forecasts, variance analysis, and cash flow projections in collaboration with asset managers and investment teams.
  • Assist in the new entity setup process, including formations, legal structure, chart of accounts, tax strategy, and banking.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices.
  • Supervise the accounts receivable function, including rent collections and capital partner contributions.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance accounting processes, systems, software, and controls to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Coordinate support for internal and external audits of real estate investments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of significant experience in accounting and financial analysis.
  • 2 years of in-house real estate accounting experience is ideal.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software applications.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and other real estate accounting software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, investors, and external partners.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
