About the position

G.L. Bruno Associates, Inc. is a full-scale, service-disabled veteran-owned development and construction company that specializes in developing, constructing, and managing healthcare projects across the western United States. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Controller to oversee our accounting department. The ideal candidate will manage all financial and accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting. This role requires experience in the construction and development industries, as well as a strong understanding of financial principles and practices. As the Controller, you will implement and maintain financial and accounting systems, processes, and controls. You will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of monthly and annual financial and management reporting. This position involves supervising and developing accounting personnel, managing their workload, training, and performance. You will serve as the key contact for external auditors and handle accounts receivable and accounts payable issues. Additionally, you will prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Your responsibilities will also include performing month-end close activities, which involve recording journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, and reconciling bank accounts. You will update and maintain cost-in-excess and work-in-progress reports, prepare year-end accounting reports, and coordinate with a CPA. Furthermore, you will prepare the annual corporate budget and weekly/monthly cash flow projections, as well as manage billing responsibilities, including project billing, retention billing, and monthly reconciliations.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain financial and accounting systems, processes, and controls.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly/annual financial and management reporting.
  • Supervise and develop accounting personnel, managing workload, training, and performance.
  • Serve as key contact for external auditors and handle AR/AP issues.
  • Prepare and maintain regular financial planning reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Perform month-end close, including recording journal entries, maintaining the general ledger, and reconciling bank accounts.
  • Update and maintain cost-in-excess and WIP reports.
  • Prepare year-end accounting reports and coordinate with CPA.
  • Prepare annual corporate budget and weekly/monthly cash flow projections.
  • Manage billing responsibilities, including project billing, retention billing, and monthly reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 7+ years of experience in accounting, with experience in construction and development industries.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Proficiency with automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare reports, statements, and projections.
  • Experience with Sage accounting software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA is highly valued but not required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial requirements.
