About the position

The Controller at Bridge33 Capital is responsible for leading all aspects of the property accounting function, including financial reporting, process and procedures, control policies, and team management. This role is integral to the company's operations, ensuring adherence to GAAP and overseeing the property accounting team to deliver high-quality results. The position requires a deep understanding of property accounting and the ability to streamline operations while maintaining compliance with financial reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of property accounting and financial reporting on an accrual basis, ensuring adherence to GAAP.
  • Build process, procedures and control policies for the property accounting team.
  • Manage, iterate and train the team for these processes and procedures.
  • Manage property accounting functions including billing, CAM, financial statements, general ledger, job cost accounting, accounts payable/receivable, budgeting, revenue recognition, and financial metrics reporting and analysis.
  • Lead, manage, and engage the property accounting team to meet and exceed outlined objectives and maintain production levels.
  • Assist in the accounting, budgeting, and closing processes during asset purchases and sales.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the operations and economics of the entities accounted for, including lease agreements.
  • Identify, design, and implement methods for streamlining accounting operations and enhancing revenue collections.
  • Create, implement, and monitor company policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with other business units including fund accounting, asset management, and property management to resolve issues related to assets.
  • Ensure compliance with lender covenants and requirements for financial reporting.
  • Design, establish, and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Manage and oversee lease audits through internal processes and collaboration with third-party providers.
  • Oversee the management and optimization of the Yardi accounting system.
  • Oversee internal and external audits related to property accounting.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in retail property accounting, with experience as a Controller or similar role.
  • A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an emphasis in accounting, or a related field is required.
  • Outstanding knowledge of accounting, finance, budgeting, property accounting standard operating procedures, cost accounting, control policies, and GAAP.
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement procedure and process improvements.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills across all internal business units, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and lead team members.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient Excel skills required and familiarity with Google productivity tools and deep knowledge of Yardi Voyager.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Public Accountant license is preferred but not required.
