About the position

The Controller position at Robert Half is a long-term contract role within the non-profit sector, focusing on overseeing fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities. The role encompasses managing accounting processes, financial reporting, auditing, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with non-profit accounting standards. The Controller will also handle the grants process from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and maintaining internal control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization
  • Coordinate with the executive team and board of directors to ensure financial objectives align with organizational goals
  • Handle all aspects of the grants process, from identifying funding opportunities to ensuring compliance post-award
  • Oversee the accounting processes, including the maintenance of accurate financial records and reports
  • Manage financial reporting, auditing, and budgeting processes to ensure financial transparency and accountability
  • Maintain internal control systems to safeguard financial resources
  • Monitor and analyze complex financial data to guide strategic decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards and regulations
  • Utilize financial software for data analysis and report generation
  • Handle month-end close procedures, including the preparation of journal entries.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role
  • Extensive knowledge of NetSuite
  • Familiarity with Non-profit Accounting practices
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is advantageous
  • Experience with Grant Accounting, including Foundation Grants, Government Grants, and Federal Grants
  • Proficiency in Month End Close processes
  • Ability to prepare and manage General Journal and Journal Entries
  • Strong financial analysis and reporting skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills
  • Solid understanding of financial regulations and legislation
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Advanced Excel user
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field; a Master's degree is a plus.
