About the position

The Controller will oversee the financial, HR, and IT functions of an international manufacturing company, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across departments. This hands-on position allows for direct collaboration with company owners and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact within the organization. The role includes managing a small team and supporting various departments with their financial and IT needs, while maintaining a strong work/life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analyze results for management and stakeholder reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Prepare and manage annual budgets.
  • Assist outside audit firm with year-end financial audit.
  • Develop, implement and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Preparation and filling of multiple state Sales Tax returns.
  • Liaise with CPA firm to execute the preparation of Federal and State Income Tax returns.
  • Supervise accounts payable processes, vendor payments, and maintain positive vendor relationships.
  • Issue year-end 1099's as needed.
  • Oversee the credit approval process and manage customer credit limits and collections.
  • Implement and monitor credit policies to minimize risk and maintain cash flow stability.
  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations.
  • Manage employee benefits administration, onboarding, and HR documentation.
  • Support recruiting efforts and performance management processes as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial and HR systems, identifying and implementing software improvements where necessary.
  • Act as a liaison with IT vendors to resolve issues and manage system updates.
  • Ensure security and compliance within the company's IT infrastructure.
  • Establish, review, and improve internal controls to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for accounting, HR, and IT functions.
  • Support other departments by providing data-driven insights and financial forecasts.
  • Directly supervise and mentor two team members, fostering growth and maintaining high-performance standards.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and support strategic financial decision-making.
  • Maintain open and transparent communication with parent company management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles, ideally in a small to mid-sized company.
  • Familiarity with HR and IT systems and practices; experience with accounting and ERP software preferred.
