About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to join our growing construction company. The ideal candidate will oversee the company's financial operations, ensuring accuracy in accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. This role is crucial for providing financial insights that support decision-making and ensure the company's financial health while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and standards. The Controller will manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment and contribute to the success of high-profile construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review timely monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting data to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain and analyze job cost reports.
  • Perform critical financial analysis to identify trends and provide insights for strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate external audits and coordinate with auditors.
  • Develop and maintain a system of controls over all accounting transactions and financial reporting.
  • Recommend, establish and support proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
  • Participate in strategic planning with senior management to support efficiencies, company growth and financial health.
  • Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, payroll, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and project accounting.
  • Monitor daily checking account balances and perform transfers as needed.
  • Review and approve checks and ACH positive pay through the online banking platform.
  • Coordinate and execute all components of the month-end close process.
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Prepare and post intercompany invoices and reconcile intercompany transactions.
  • Prepare and record manual, reclassifying, recurring, and adjusting journal entries.
  • Reconcile prepaid insurance and material inventory general ledger balances quarterly.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
  • Process monthly workers compensation data.

Requirements

  • MBA or other advanced degree in business, finance, or accounting.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
  • 10+ years of total accounting & finance experience including 5 years in a senior financial leadership role.
  • Prior construction industry accounting experience necessary.
  • Experience in financial roles within the construction industry with $100 million to $200 million in annual revenues.
  • Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, tax planning, banking, cash management, and cost control principles.
  • Strong financial analysis skills, including cost-benefit analysis and ROI calculations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and reporting tools: HCSS accounting modules and interface, Sage 300 Construction, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
