About the position

The Controller at Sheraton Detroit Novi Hotel is responsible for supervising the accounting staff and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the hotel's financial operations. Responsibilities

  • Supervises accounting staff and completes month-end closing processes.
  • Maintains balance sheet reconciliations and supports computer systems.
  • Trains all associates in the accounting department and maintains internal audit controls.
  • Reviews daily revenue reports and tracks daily cash flow.
  • Communicates effectively with staff to provide clear direction and assigns work details.
  • Monitors hotel traffic and adjusts staffing accordingly.
  • Coordinates and administers plans for operational control, including profit planning and expense budgets.
  • Administers tax filing and government reporting procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for accounting staff and manages disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction and builds long-term relationships with guests.

Requirements

  • 4 years of comparable accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of accounting supervisory experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, finance, and hospitality professions.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and direct the department.
  • Excellent business communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, with advanced skills in Excel for complex calculations.
  • Experience with bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and journal entry creation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the hospitality industry.
