About the position

The Controller at Pura Vida Miami is responsible for overseeing the fiscal and operational health of the organization. This role involves conducting in-depth audits of restaurant P&Ls and operational practices, while collaborating with senior leadership to establish financial benchmarks and reporting standards. The Controller will also manage the accounting team, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and will play a key role in financial planning and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, and reporting standards in conjunction with senior leadership.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and variance evaluations.
  • Monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems for compliance with standards and regulations.
  • Maintain internal control safeguards for costs and revenue.
  • Partner with Procurement and restaurant General Managers for invoice and purchase order reconciliation.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies and procedures across all programs.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to protect company assets and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Oversee and support the accounting team, fostering a productive environment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
  • Perform technical research to ensure compliance with accounting guidance.
  • Assist the Executive Committee with Financial Planning and Analysis support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.
  • 7+ years of proven accounting experience.
  • 3+ years of recent restaurant/Food & Beverage/Hospitality experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP accounting and reporting policies; familiarity with IFRS standards.
  • Experience with public company filing documentation and requirements.
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience with R365 or other cloud-based accounting systems.
  • Strong familiarity with restaurant POS and procurement software packages.
  • Management of external audit by large global or national CPA firm.
  • Working knowledge of employment law and regulatory standards.
  • Strong understanding of economic and banking processes.
  • Hands-on experience closing the books and preparing financial statements and monthly reporting packages.
  • Strong background in accounting for Inventory, Fixed Assets, CAPEX, and OPEX.
  • Expertise with Cost of Goods Sold calculations and cost accounting processes.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics and macro execution in Excel is a plus.
