About the position

The Controller at Klingbeil Capital Management is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Corporate Accounting department. This role involves managing staff, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards. The Controller will also prepare financial statements, budgets, and coordinate audits, while fostering a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of the KCM Corporate Accounting department.
• Develop, train, and mentor accounting staff.
• Establish and ensure consistent departmental procedures across the portfolio.
• Ensure financial statements are accurately stated, including supporting schedules.
• Perform month-end closing and prepare monthly financial statements.
• Prepare annual budget and projections for the corporate entity.
• Prepare Business Plans for Funds and coordinate Fund audits.
• Conduct Interest Rate Break Even Analysis and Fund Cash Flow and Liquidity Analysis.
• Coordinate year-end true-up process for property expense allocations.
• Review and reconcile general ledger account balances, including related party tie outs.
• Coordinate preparation of year-end 1099's.
• Maintain favorable working relationships with other departments and team members.
• Provide guidance and direction to accounting department staff.
• Perform duties in accordance with established company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent.
• 5+ years of general accounting experience, including 2+ years in management.
• Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in PC spreadsheet software.
• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to work independently.
• Self-directed with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
