About the position

The Controller at Kanawha Scales & Systems will oversee the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls. This role involves leading the accounting team, producing accurate financial statements, managing job costing, and integrating financial processes across acquired companies. The Controller will collaborate with executive leadership to optimize financial performance and manage cash flow, while also developing a strong finance team to support the company's growth.

Responsibilities

  • Work with divisional accounting teams to ensure proper internal controls and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Produce timely, accurate, and actionable financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Lead job costing and manufacturing accounting consistency across all businesses.
  • Develop strong accounting practices around recording and invoicing service technician activities and parts inventory management.
  • Lead the financial integration of multiple acquired companies and implement common finance processes, procedures, and controls.
  • Develop GAAP compliant finance processes and systems that serve business needs and successfully pass compliance and audit standards.
  • Build finance teams at both the division and corporate level with competent, talented, and high-performing individuals.
  • Work with FP&A team members to produce an annual budget that includes forecasted financial statements for revenue, expenses, gross profit, gross margin, and EBITDA.
  • Develop and maintain the corporate financial structure to ensure positive monthly cash flow and annual financial targets are achieved.
  • Develop and manage a Treasury platform to promote enhanced visibility and better management of liquid assets.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to set sales deal pricing, discount or rebate programs, payment and credit terms, and other financial terms to maximize profit.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to set supplier deal contract terms, units purchase price, discounts and rebates, and other financial terms to reduce cost and maximize cash flow.
  • Determine inventory and other asset valuations and controls.
  • Ensure all taxes are accurate, filed on time, and payments remitted.
  • Manage all accounting activities including payables, receivables, payroll, and others.
  • Provide financial reports, analysis, and other data and information to both management and private equity fund general partners on a routine basis.
  • Develop and produce all company financial reports, statements, scorecards, and other metrics and data.
  • Manage company financial compliance and risk management to all laws and regulations and supervise all audits and record-keeping activities.

Requirements

  • Strong team leadership skills and promoting comradery and teamwork with geographically dispersed team members.
  • Successfully led the business and finance integration projects of multiple acquired companies during a single accounting period.
  • Strong numerical proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and other quantitative disciplines.
  • Strong experience in operating with disparate accounting systems and platforms.
  • Strong understanding and application of GAAP.
  • Experience in system integration, data cleansing, and BI warehouses.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and creating structured processes in an unstructured environment.
  • Strong capabilities with ERP, experience in major platforms such as NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, SAGE, Infor.
  • Hold a current Certified Public Accountant, Certified Financial Advisor or similar certification is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in private equity or corporate finance planning and analysis role.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience supervising finance team staff.
  • Strong background in Percent Project Completion Accounting methods, rules, and schedules to ensure all active projects are billed and collected over the course of production.
  • Fluency in English language - able to speak and type - multilingual a plus.
  • Speak to customers in a professional and respectful etiquette, even in interactions of stress, complaint, or urgency.
  • Create perfectly accurate transactions in company information technology systems.
