As a Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the profitability of our business through accurate and timely financial reporting. You will be responsible for maintaining acceptable levels of internal control and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as our Standard Operating Procedures. This position requires collaboration with our Nevada-based accounting team and involves safeguarding the interests of our owners and investors while managing our assets effectively. In this role, you will oversee the financial operations for our Colorado properties, including the Cage, Accounting, Warehouse, and Drop/Count Team. You will be tasked with monitoring gaming revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording in accordance with Maverick's established guidelines. Additionally, you will assist in budget planning and financial strategizing for our gaming departments, ensuring compliance with all regulatory licenses, permits, and legal agreements. Your analytical skills will be essential as you review financial statements for accuracy and completeness, analyze financial data, and advise management on maintaining financial objectives. As a leader, you will hire, train, supervise, and develop staff, providing coaching and counseling as needed. You will also manage cash flow-related issues, prepare monthly financial statements, and establish internal financial controls. Your role will involve coordinating with CPA firms for audits and ensuring the successful completion of all internal and external financial audits. You will direct or prepare all financial reports in accordance with Maverick's requirements and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, supervise and develop staff, including coaching, counseling and discipline.
  • Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues, including the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Monitor gaming revenues and expenses, ensuring accurate recording in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assist in creating annual budgets and monthly variance analysis.
  • Ensure compliance on all regulatory licenses, permits, leases, contracts, and operational taxes.
  • Review final financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze financial data and operations to assist management in maintaining financial objectives.
  • Comply with Standard Accounting policies and procedures and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
  • Timely review and approval of gaming related balance sheet accounts.
  • Establish and audit all internal financial controls including purchasing, cash handling, and inventories.
  • Complete all internal and external financial audits, coordinating with CPA firms.
  • Direct or prepare all financial reports in accordance with Maverick's requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a managerial role.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience as a Casino Controller and/or Senior Accountant.
  • Maintain working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office required, with strong MS Excel skills.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central or related accounting system preferable.
  • Highly analytical with strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of general ledger posting process and experience preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently while managing concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
