About the position

The Controller position at Meridian Behavioral Health is a pivotal role that oversees the general accounting functions within the organization. This includes managing inter-company accounting, cash management and reconciliation, financial reporting, and balance sheet management. The Controller is accountable for ensuring that robust policies and procedures are in place to protect the company's assets, providing reasonable assurance of compliance with internal controls. This role also involves providing technical accounting guidance in accordance with GAAP to all company entities, which may include participation in due diligence and other activities related to acquisitions and dispositions. In addition to these responsibilities, the Controller is tasked with ensuring the proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules, maintaining compliance with company policies, and reviewing monthly and quarterly account reconciliations. The position requires the preparation of financial reports in a timely manner, ensuring that the Finance Information System operates effectively, and coordinating both internal and external audits. The Controller will also be responsible for implementing recommendations from audit findings and ensuring that the accounting department is staffed with qualified personnel capable of meeting the organization's objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with an undergraduate degree in Accounting and at least five years of experience in public accounting or private industry. Prior management experience is also required, as the Controller will have direct management responsibilities over accounting clerks and payables staff. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general accounting function, including inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, and balance sheet management.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to protect company assets.
  • Provide technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all company entities, including involvement in due diligence for acquisitions/dispositions.
  • Responsible for the proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules.
  • Maintain compliance of company financial records with company policies, reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations.
  • Prepare company financial reports in compliance with policies and directives in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the Finance IS system operates as required and validate/design suggested changes to meet accounting requirements.
  • Coordinate work relating to internal and external audits, implementing recommendations from audit findings.
  • Ensure the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel and responsible for their continued development.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of Public Accounting or Private Industry accounting experience
  • Prior management experience required.
