Join us and make a difference today. This position is for a full-time Controller, Real Estate Management position to work at EAH Corporate in San Rafael, CA. This is a hybrid remote position. Under minimal supervision, the Controller coordinates financial audits and tax returns for properties in the Real Estate Management Department's portfolio. The role involves reviewing procedures to ensure that all financial reports are reflected and reported accurately, providing coordination of financial planning and budget management functions, and ensuring company accounting procedures conform to generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller will lead the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GAAS for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that all REM financials are reflected and reported accurately and timely. The position also requires collaboration with senior management and department heads to support strategic initiatives and organizational goals, as well as supervising and mentoring a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and development.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GAAS for internal and external stakeholders ensuring that all REM financials are reflected and reported accurately and timely.
  • Leads the financial audits and tax returns for REM property financial audits with auditors and tax preparers.
  • Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budgets.
  • Manages the preparation of financial outlooks and financial forecasts.
  • Collaborates with senior management and department heads to support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Provides financial analysis and guidance on business decisions, ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency.
  • Supervises and mentors a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and development.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and reporting, including tax filings and audits.
  • Develops and implements internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Develops and implements strategies to improve financial operations' overall efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Researches technical accounting issues for compliance.
  • Guides complex transactions, including review of contracts before execution.
  • Assists in evaluating the financial impact of business initiatives and investments and contributes to long-term financial planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • 6 - 8 years as a Controller or in a financial leadership or management role.
  • 5 years related experience in a non-profit affordable housing environment (HUD and Tax Credit accounting).
  • At least 1 year supervising staff.
  • Master's degree in finance or Accounting and CPA preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial audits and tax returns in a nonprofit setting.
  • Knowledge of HUD and Tax Credit accounting practices.
