About the position

New Rochelle based multifamily residential property management company is excited to be adding to our team and growing our business. We are seeking a full-time Controller to serve in the firm's leadership team while reporting to the Director of Finance. The Controller will play a crucial role in managing the accounting staff, providing leadership, support, and guidance to ensure the financial health of the organization. This position involves reviewing and preparing monthly and/or quarterly financial statement packages, including variance analysis, and leading financial reporting meetings with clients and investors. The Controller will also assist with the annual budgeting process and oversee the new client onboarding process, ensuring effective communication with legal, leasing, and compliance teams to understand and service each client effectively. In addition to these responsibilities, the Controller will assist with the monthly closing process for multiple clients in a timely manner, maintain internal controls and company processes, and generate ad hoc reporting as needed. The role requires identifying and implementing changes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department, reviewing department staff capabilities, and recommending improvements and development plans when necessary. The Controller will also participate in a wide variety of special projects associated with each portfolio, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Actively managing accounting staff providing leadership, support, and guidance.
  • Reviewing and preparing monthly and/or quarterly financial statement packages including variance analysis.
  • Leading monthly and quarterly financial reporting meetings with clients and investors.
  • Assisting with the annual budgeting process.
  • Overseeing new client onboarding process.
  • Communicating effectively with legal, leasing and compliance teams to understand and service each client.
  • Assisting with the monthly closing process for multiple clients in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Must have a strong work ethic.

  • Superior attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Exceptional Excel skills with an aptitude to embrace new technology, systems, and workflows.
  • Ability to adapt to and prioritize competing demands.
  • Desire to constantly learn and grow.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field of study.
  • 7+ years of experience in real estate property management.
  • Experience with Yardi Voyager system.
  • Strong experience in budgeting and cost control - analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements, and projections in real estate property management.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
