About the position

The Controller will assist the Executive Director in managing the financial operations of the Southwest Georgia United Empowerment Zone (SWGAUEZ) and related organizations. This role involves overseeing accounting records for grants and funds, supervising the Bookkeeper, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The Controller will also prepare budgets, financial reports, and liaise with funding agencies, requiring independent decision-making under deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Bookkeeper in managing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable according to accounting principles.
  • Assist CDFI staff with revolving loan funds by recording loans and entering payments in the accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
  • Prepare the annual budget in consultation with the Executive Director and provide monthly budget progress reports.
  • Assist in preparing required quarterly and semi-annual reports to USDA, HUD, and other agencies.
  • Prepare and request funds from USDA, HUD, and other agencies.
  • Serve as a liaison between funded providers and staff of USDA, HUD, and other agencies.
  • Approve reimbursement and advance requests from providers and assist with budgeting of obligated funds.
  • Ensure compliance with financial auditing requirements and support independent financial audits.
  • Provide fiscal reports to the SWGAUEZ and CEPT Boards of Directors at their respective meetings.
  • Travel locally and out of the area for job-related training as required.
  • Attend all required meetings and functions as requested.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
