About The Position

The Controller is a key full-time position within the Finance department at Writer, responsible for overseeing the accounting operations of the company. This role involves managing the global accounting team, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and preparing monthly financial statements. The Controller will collaborate closely with various departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in accounting, with expert-level knowledge of US GAAP.
  • CPA required.
  • Relevant experience in the technology industry, preferably with exposure to technical accounting and operational accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with ability to work effectively with senior leadership and external parties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, including AP, AR, Revenue, and GL Accounting.
  • Create processes and procedures (including internal controls) to help maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Manage outside consultants and use their expertise where needed.
  • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
  • Partner with the external auditors to ensure a timely audit of our financial statements.
  • Manage ERP cleanliness, working closely with IT as necessary.
  • Coach and mentor key leaders in the accounting organization.
