About the position

The Controller at a Paving and Asphalt Manufacturing Company in Jacksonville, FL, is responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role involves direct supervision of the accounting team, management of cost accounting processes, and collaboration with top leadership to optimize financial reporting and internal controls. The Controller will also serve as a primary liaison for external audits and tax reporting, while providing strategic guidance on financial decisions.

Responsibilities

• Direct supervision of all accounting functions.
• Oversee the company's cost accounting and manufacturing control processes.
• Manage the monthly close process and reporting to external agencies.
• Serve as the primary liaison for tax reporting and audit services.
• Produce financial reports that comply with GAAP.
• Optimize internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Manage Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll functions.
• Create and implement policies and procedures to resolve accounting issues.
• Conduct audits and provide information to external auditors.
• Provide monthly and year-end financial reporting and analysis.
• Assist in management of insurance and risk processes.
• Coordinate activities associated with the annual audit.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to the accounting team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 10+ years of corporate accounting experience.
• 7+ years of hands-on accounting managerial experience.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, particularly in construction and manufacturing.
• Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• CPA Certification (preferred but not necessary).
• Experience in construction accounting and manufacturing costing.
• Familiarity with project management software.
