About the position

The Controller will play a crucial role in the senior leadership team of a for-profit 501c3 organization, overseeing a team of five. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations, managing grant funds, and maintaining accurate financial reporting. The Controller will also handle contract compliance, cost allocation, and fixed asset tracking, making it essential for the candidate to have extensive experience in nonprofit accounting and federal government contracts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of 5 and manage financial operations.
• Ensure compliance with Federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
• Identify and manage allowable and allocable costs.
• Administer contract compliance and manage Single Audits.
• Develop an Indirect Cost Rate Proposal and manage federal indirect rates.
• Track grant funds to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with grantor requirements.
• Manage procurement practices adhering to government regulations.
• Handle funding sources with ratio requirements and manage revenue recognition.
• Manage cost allocation of shared costs and track gifts with donor restrictions.
• Ensure fixed asset tracking for equipment purchased with grant funds.

Requirements

• 15+ years of relevant accounting experience.
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• CPA Certification highly preferred.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and ability to interpret GAAP guidance.
• Strong accounting skills with knowledge of nonprofit and fund accounting.
• Experience with federal government contract accounting standards (OMB).
• Knowledge of government contracts and grant accounting, especially with social service agencies.
• Experience in designing and implementing user-friendly financial systems.
• Significant experience with MS Excel, NetSuite, Concur, and Adaptive software.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with New Market Tax Credits (NMTC) and alternate funding mechanisms.
