About the position

The Controller is responsible for supporting community objectives by effectively managing financial operations and providing leadership to the accounting team. This role involves interfacing with various stakeholders, including residents and staff, to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with regulations. The Controller will oversee financial systems, assist with audits, and promote a positive workplace culture aligned with the organization's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Support community objectives through effective financial management.
  • Interface with clients, residents, and staff on financial matters.
  • Collect, analyze, and consolidate financial information for operations.
  • Manage budget preparation and cash flow management.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on financial processes for new residents.
  • Maintain and reconcile Resident Master Trust accounts.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations for different entities.
  • Support annual onsite audit preparation with consultants.
  • Learn and assist with Medicare and Health Center billing as needed.
  • Manage deferred revenue and collaborate on property tax audits.
  • Assist in payroll review and approval processes.
  • Support new initiatives and projects related to financial systems.
  • Promote STAR Core Values and engage with staff and residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of three years hands-on experience with G/L, A/P, A/R, Payroll, and financial statement preparation.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls required.
  • Documented skills in leadership, supervision, and communication.
  • Proficient in the use of business office machines, computers, spreadsheet and word processing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in annual audit preparation and schedules preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with self-discipline and self-motivation.
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability to changing circumstances.
