About the position

The Controller position at Vaco is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing all accounting and finance functions within a growing company in the Raleigh area. This hands-on position involves partnering with field operations to create a comprehensive financial picture, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and managing financial reporting, project financial management, cost control, revenue recognition, and internal controls. The role is newly created due to company growth, providing an opportunity to shape the position alongside leadership.

Responsibilities

• Execute month end close including reconciliations and overseeing transactional accounting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including profit and loss statements and balance sheets.
• Collaborate with project teams to prepare and update financial forecasts for projects.
• Ensure projects are completed within approved financial parameters and provide solutions to budgetary issues.
• Oversee financial aspects of projects including budgeting, cost tracking, and reporting.
• Provide detailed financial reports and performance analyses for each project.
• Analyze variances and suggest corrective actions to keep projects within budget.
• Ensure billing schedules and change orders are properly documented and processed.
• Oversee accurate and timely revenue recognition and client billing.
• Participate in internal and external audits and assist in audit documentation.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in accounting or finance.
• 2+ years of experience in a managerial capacity.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
• Experience with Work in Progress in construction, manufacturing, or related project accounting.

Benefits

• Salary range of $125,000 - $140,000 plus bonus opportunities.
