Job type Full-time Location 898 College Street, Monticello, GA 31064 Full job description Accountable For: General Accounting, Admissions, Coding, Medical Records GENERAL PURPOSE AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Under administrative direction, directs the General Accounting, Admissions, Coding, and Medical Records activities in compliance with defined hospital policies and objectives. RELATED FUNCTIONS : Administers the general accounting financial and statistical reporting functions of the JHS group in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures. Assists the JHS CEO and System CFO in the development of long and short-range JHS group operations plans, which may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses, and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital purchases and staff issues. Assists with the development of long and short-range operational and capital budgets, which are supported by the JHS group's long and short-range goals and objectives. Prepares budget variance analyses monthly. Recommends budget modifications as required. Assists managers in the development of departmental budgets. Assists the System CFO in preparing finance packets and other handouts for the JHS Board of Directors and key management staff. Monitors JHS fiscal performance in relation to established plans and objectives of the System. Identifies and reports undesirable trends and makes recommendations for remedial actions. Prepares internal financial reports including work papers for annual financial audit. Assures the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports and assures that the reports reliably reflect the financial position of JHS. Prepares internal financial reports including work papers for annual Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports under the guidance of the ORMC Reimbursement Director. Assumes a lead role in exploring means of reducing JHS group operating costs and increasing revenues. Reviews financial information received from outside agencies and makes necessary journal entries to record accounts receivable, write-offs and contractuals. Reconciles all Balance Sheet accounts each month and submits report to the System CFO regarding completion and variances noted. Maintains and completes a daily and monthly cash balancing report for all JHS accounts. Reports cash balances to the CEO at least weekly. Reviews general ledger accounts for errors and/or the need for accruals and makes all necessary entries prior to closing each month. Prepares entries for posting to the general ledger each month. Prepares financial data and associated reports required by government and other regulating agencies including payroll tax reports and public disclosure reports. Oversees and maintains accounting internal controls and other procedures assuring uniform and correct reporting consistent with System guidelines. Reviews and approves all account payable check runs (twice weekly) prior to printing of checks. Acts as direct contact for vendors and department heads in matters relating to account status with vendors. Maintains relationships with various banking institutions for the maintenance of accounts and coordinates with investment of JHS short-term investments with the System CEO and CFO. Directs the preparation of statistics for monthly and yearly financial statements, including the preparations of charts and graphs showing progress, current status, and trends. Supervises the Admissions and Medical Records departments to assure operational processes are accurate and appropriate. Completes statistical surveys as requested by outside agencies. Performs any other duties that the JHS CEO or System CFO may deem necessary. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and verbal, interpersonal and quantitative skills normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience in the Accounting field. Knowledge of financial management and analysis principles and techniques and managerial skills typically acquired through two to three years of experience in hospital accounting with up to four to six years' experience as an accounting manager. EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Accounting A minimum of 5 years experience in the healthcare field, preferred LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: CPA, preferred INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Relates cooperatively and constructively in all interactions during daily activities. ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Motor coordination and finger dexterity VERBAL AND/OR COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Numerical ability to perform rapid and accurate arithmetic computations. ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.
