About the position

The Controller at Mission Neighborhood Health Center (MNHC) is responsible for providing financial leadership and expertise for the organization's day-to-day accounting functions. This role ensures compliance with GAAP standards, oversees financial reporting, and manages internal controls. The Controller will supervise a team, manage payroll, grant budgets, and ensure timely financial processes, all while advocating for health equity in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise payroll, grant management, accounts payable, and purchasing functions of the organization.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of bills, expense reports, and payments.
  • Manage accounts receivable and ensure accurate daily posting of receipts.
  • Prepare budgets and revenue reporting for grants, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Take ownership of all term-end close activities and coach staff on policies and procedures.
  • Close the books each month and at year-end, ensuring proper recognition of financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations on all balance sheet accounts and other accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for board committees and special reports as needed.
  • Supervise and update the fixed assets system and coordinate annual physical inventory process.
  • Prepare and submit all federal, state, and local tax returns, ensuring compliance with filing requirements.
  • Lead financial audits and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process, reviewing financial plans against actual results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, CPA required.
  • Over 8+ years of overall accounting experience with 3+ years as a Controller in a nonprofit, preferably in healthcare.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills, particularly with accounting software like Abila MIP or Sage 100.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, V look-up, and Macros.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, A133, and internal control processes.

  • Experience with healthcare financial management.
