About the position

The Controller at Homemakers Furniture is responsible for overseeing corporate financial reporting, financial analysis, and internal controls. This role involves liaising with directors and executives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, preparing annual budgets, and reporting monthly financials in a timely and accurate manner. The position is integral to the accounting department, managing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and ensuring compliance with various tax regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and process all segments of the accounting department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and sales tax.
  • Manage payroll for the executive branch and ensure compliance with payroll reporting and tax regulations.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supplemental schedules in compliance with reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate and prepare budgets and financial forecasts for internal and external use.
  • Work with the parent company on additional reporting needs.
  • Manage depreciation reports and capitalization details.
  • Ensure compliance with sales tax, property taxes, and other applicable taxes.
  • Identify system and IT capabilities to enhance departmental efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Oversee the Accounting Manager and Payroll Processor.
  • Fulfill other corporate duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.
  • Master's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Ten years of accounting experience.
  • Three years of personal management experience.
  • Retail accounting experience preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and multi-task budgetary preparation and management experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting procedures and principles.
  • Ability to analyze efficiencies in software relative to accounting duties.
  • Knowledge of banking procedures related to money management.
  • Experience in cash management and expenditure processes.
  • Understanding of federal tax guidelines and compliance.
  • Knowledge of DOL guidelines.
  • Familiarity with fixed asset depreciation schedules.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective time-management abilities.
  • Ability to perform all accounting functions, including financial statement preparation.
  • Ability to establish credibility and support organizational priorities.
  • Strong team player with the ability to interact with other departments.
