About the position

The Controller at Berks Homes plays a crucial role in overseeing the accounting department, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial information that supports executive decision-making. This position focuses on providing leadership to the accounting team, maintaining the integrity of financial processes, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulations, all while contributing to the company's ongoing growth and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide training and development opportunities for the accounting team.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of internal financial reports for senior leadership and external reports for lenders, investors, audits, and regulatory purposes.
  • Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends, providing actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Work with senior leadership to develop long-term financial strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Maintain strong internal controls for the timely and accurate processing of accounts payable transactions.
  • Provide direction and work with external auditors to ensure compliance with corporate tax regulations and optimize tax strategies.
  • Continuously monitor and enhance accounting systems and controls to maintain data integrity, focusing on efficiency.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insight and support for operational decision-making.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard the company's financial assets.
  • Support the leadership team on special projects and ad hoc reporting, providing key financial insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a controller and leadership role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data management functions like VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and complex formulas.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience in the construction industry or a related field is a plus.
