About the position

The Automation Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the overall manufacturing process by taking ownership of PLC and Robotics-related programming, troubleshooting, and support. This position is integral to the manufacturing team, collaborating with other Manufacturing Engineers on various projects throughout the plant. The Automation Engineer is expected to develop electrical and control system design solutions based on sound engineering principles and present these solutions to customers. Safety is a top priority, and the engineer must ensure that all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are adhered to in all work completed. In addition to design responsibilities, the Automation Engineer will analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations that support design decisions, including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls. The role involves creating and finalizing designs to meet project specifications, developing accurate Bills of Process, and defining equipment and parts sourced from external suppliers. The engineer will oversee project workflows and support both internal and external resources to ensure that projects are delivered on time, meet quality expectations, and stay within budget. The position also requires troubleshooting equipment failures, which may involve working with pneumatics, servos, variable frequency drives (VFDs), relays, communication networks, touchscreens, push buttons, robotics controls, and PLCs. Documentation is a key aspect of the role, as the engineer will create user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings while maintaining accurate records according to quality standards. The Automation Engineer will also modify or create process instructions around the plant, applying process improvements through established systems such as NSP, ECR, and ECN. This role may include other duties of a similar nature or level, with a primary focus on all Automation Improvements and Projects.
