About the position

The Controls + Automation Co-Op position at Hargrove Engineers & Constructors is designed for students currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering. The role involves performing engineering assignments related to automation and controls engineering, including DCS, PLC, and HMI systems development. The position emphasizes learning and applying engineering design standards under direct supervision, contributing to various projects, and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform increasingly complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods.
• Assist with automation and controls engineering and DCS, PLC, and HMI systems development.
• Complete assignments on schedule.
• Learn and utilize automation engineering design standards.
• Assist in problem solving to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
• Produce estimate level preliminary designs.
• Produce detail design calculations, spreadsheets, reports, drawings, and sketches for various projects.
• Assist engineers and specialists in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master program of Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering at an accredited university.
• GPA of 2.7 or above.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Good time management skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to prioritize assignments.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC).
• Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS).
